101 Things I’ve learnt over the past 6 days.

The Cape is truly gorgeous, baring Gordons Bay, The Strand and Somerset West
Mango is not a truly gorgeous way to fly
The gorgeousness of the cape only begins once you leave the airport.
Cape people remain FAR more friendlier than the Joburgers
Breakfast at the V&A hotel is ALWAYS a good idea.
Pretending you’re staying there and getting the concierge to book your trip to Robin Island is a BETTER idea
Visiting Robin Island is a very moving adventure
Getting sea sick on the way back to the main land is NOT fun
at all
The Village Bistro in Constantia is AMAZING
So much so we visited it three times
We were like family
Attempting to get up the mountain is a mission
Calling ahead gets you no where
There are more film crews in CT than gay men these days
Finding someone who will MAKE you leather hand bags for R250 is priceless
Getting VERY lost looking for Woodheads is not.
Drinks at ‘the nelly’ is up there
Cosmo’s at the nelly might just rate top out of all cosmo’s consumed on the trip
Dinner with friends at Society Bistro is all ways good fun.
Parking 5km’s away is not.
Booking a wine tasting tour for 9am the morning after the dinner that took you BACK to the nelly for more drinks
Is not a good idea
Having a private bus for a wine tasting tour is the ONLY way to roll
Thelma is average
Tokara is gorgeous
Rustenburg has picture perfect gardens.
I remember very little after this
Redwood tours is FABULOUS
Personalised tour guide is fabulous’er
Shopping in Stellenbosch is great.
Meeting an interesting ‘artist’ is even better
Having him personalise your art is special
Listening to long, in depth, complex stories regarding the piece of art is charming
Until you realise he wants you to buy both
Buying both always seems like a good idea at the time
Pretending he is dead famous – is always a good idea
Life begins at the 12 Apostles.
You haven’t lived until you’ve had a full body massage, drinks in the leopard room and lunch on the deck.
Be warned – do NOT book the buffet on a Sunday
And wear sun block. ALWAYS
And drink rose.
Lots of it
Seeing Freshly Ground at Kirstenbocsh is an experience
Rod Stewart would have been better
But oh well
Cape people don’t believe in
Being on time
Or
Personal space
Sharing is caring – 4 on a blanket when there were only 2 – why not?!
You really really haven’t lived until you’ve had drinks at the Martini bar at the Houtenout in Constantia.
Staying for dinner isn’t really worth it.
Especially after a day in the hot sun.
After a Cosmo or two in the bar
Don’t go splashing the Cosmo on your pants – Poncy waiters don’t like that
Pedlar on the bend was just fine
Francshoek is gorgeous
Gorgeously over priced
The whole of CT is gorgeously over priced
Shopping in Francshoek is a lovely fantasy
Tracey’s being the ONLY place to shop
Chocolate in Francshoek is a little disappointing
I want Belgium chocolates in Belgim
Le or La Brassier remains one of my favourites
Staying the night in francshoek seemed at the time like a good idea
But it was not
KLM cabin crew are lovely
Their broken English is charming
Meerlust was an after thought – and possibly the best tasting of the entire trip
Dinner at Le Quartier Francais was an experience
6 courses was a perfect choice
4 might actually have been better
8 was madness
Worst Cosmo’s found at Le Quartier Francais
But the wine was good
And the food was amamzing
I wish I’d found out who ‘john the famous guy’ who sat at the next table really was
The wind never stopped
Which is probably a good thing
We might have melted otherwise
Driving back to CT from Francshoek was sad
Taking the road via Paarl was…. bizarre
Picking up our customer handbags was exciting
Driving out to Somerset West was a BAD idea
Finding the Strand was just Sad
Landing up in Gordon’s bay was just disappointing and smelt of fire
GPS’ing our back to into CT to have lunch at the Brass Bell was excellent
Bumping into the Taxi drama in the CBD was a little dicey
Arriving at the Horrid airport 2 hours early was stupid
Not being able to get on an earlier flight was annoying
Flight home was fine
Getting out of bed this morning was HARD
Day dreaming about the weekend is currently happening
Finding the energy is not happening
Planning the next trip is next on the to do list
I never thought I’d get to 97
It was truly a perfect girls weekend away
The next one might have to be at the Hydro in KZN
I read an excellent book while there
And bought a gorgeous dress!

Getting out of bed every morning is hard! About 50% of the people where I work speak broken English, so I’ve got used to it.

John – the difference i suspect is… the KLM pilot was awfully sexy. If the case is that your 50% is sexy – Where do you work?!

Having just returned from CT yesterday, I really enjoyed reading this… our Mango flight wasn’t bad at all… except maybe their outfits…. mmmm yuck.
