Big Girl Panties…

As life goes… Certain things one learns from ones parents, certain things one recieves the ground work from ones parents and certain things one is left to teach ones self.
When it comes to the jhbprincess + Budgeting… I fall into the last two options. I kinda get it, my parents kinda taught it to me. But in all reality up until a year a go, i thought Budget = Target. 30 days to spend every single cent you had.
And boy was i good at it. Over achiever that i am.
I had an Aha moment sometime last year… It escapes me right now exactly how this came about – but what i do remember is, i realised that…. Healthy Money Habits are well… as important as Excellent Table Manners and Personilised Stationery. And seeing as i have the latter, and lack the former – i went on a mission to educate myself.
Naturally i rushed out and bought Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Quite expectedly, it hasn’t quite been read.
What i did learn is that slow and steady wins the race.
Your credit card is the devil, unless you learn to manage it and not let it manage you. Store charge cards are THE FUCKING devil, no matter which way you justify it to yourself. Fixed Deposit accounts are excellent as are ATM accounds where you’re putting money into it and have forgotten the PIN, and not to mention money overseas you can’t touch. Could i be any better at this?!
Sitting yesterday pondering my amazingness, as one does at the end of the month – i had another Aha moment. What my Portfolio needs is… a little Diversity. A little Investment. Maybe a stock or two* on the JSE.
And so… Not being one to wait, I put my BGP* on, logged onto the StandardBank online share trading thingie and Purchased myself 500 Ronds worth of Harmony Gold Shares.
I am, *that* grown up.
*I literally MEAN ‘one or two’ - R500 only buys you like 5 shares.
